30 Days of Video Games: Day 18

**Spoiler alert for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic**

Day 18 - Favourite protagonist:

Revan from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. There was something quinessentially Star Wars about Knights of the Old Republic that made me play that game a good 5-10 times.

Bioware took a lot of elements that made Star Wars stand out - Sci-fi setting, good vs evil, lightsabers, droids, the force, and a good twist and brought it into a video game setting that made you both care about the characters and puts the fate of the universe in your hands.

The twist comes from the fact you play as the amnesic Darth Revan, tying it in brilliantly with gameplay elements players usually take for granted - Why you have no prior knowledge of how you got to the beginning of the game, and why you can so easily steam roll through an entire battalion of enemies without breaking a sweat.

This and the inherent feeling that ties in to the pre-existing IP of Star Wars is what made the game so brilliant. That you take the journey with Revan and is up to you whether you go back to become the Dark Lord of the Sith, or redeem yourself back to the Light Side.

While it may be due in part to my attachment to characters that aren’t generally touched too much upon, this definitely puts him in my mind as one of my favourite and most bad-ass Sith and Jedi in the whole of the Star Wars universe.
